Fornasa

opens tonight at 18.00 a photographic exhibition by Beppe Fornasa Cornedo Vicentino. Beppe is a friend and has had a long career. E 'known for its "walls", the result of intense research that led him to seek material in half of Europe. The result is intensely graphic images, suggestive of mental and visual pathways of intense impact.

Some years ago I dedicated to Beppe the text that follows.

(One time, back when there were meadows, where the lazy summers flowed, when the free time of adolescents was not forced into a thousand activities planned under the supervision of adults so as cynical opportunists, the boys could dabble with simple means, perhaps lying in the grass watching the clouds passing by. In those forms that traveled over their heads, chasing, turning, frayed, or fantastic seeing familiar characters, faces, animals and livestock, houses and castles. Before their eyes were held battles, chases, dances, stories and adventures of all kinds. It was enough to have eyes to see and let their imagination.
Yet, what seems a simple game, requires a job of choice and pertinentizzazione, know how to come to terms with a speech and language, and with these weapons intellectuals confront the boundless space of the sky. The logical operations of cutting and repetition are at work here in the form separate from indistinct, dall'incomprensibile sense, the word noise. And so we do not discover anything in the claim that the careful observation of children's games has taught the tellers of souls more than the adults learned to question: in those games are always already at work the right and desire that drive the ' man talking, dreaming, telling stories, creating images.)

Beppe Fornasa is an experienced photographer, a magician of the dark room and a fine photo. For nearly three decades has found a favorite subject in the walls. In an old interview said that, after attending a bit 'all kinds of photography, around 1974 he "began to see interesting things in the walls" and have since then devoted increasing attention to the walls. Also in the interview, observing that his photographs have no standing, replied: "Indeed, I do not ever titles, I leave everyone a chance to see what they want in my photos. Recently, I showed the boys, a middle school, and the result was of exceptional interest. "
These limited information contribute very little to understand the approach of Beppe Fornasa to a subject as the walls that finds its original size not so much in the same subject as the extension of a research almost thirty years. The key to steal the secret of his pictures is not even in the exceptional quality of his prints: a rare refinement, so that an invitation to love her touch, as if wanting to offer their thanks to caress the impression of a delicate texture, almost velvety, like a precious fabric. Here we have a clue, just a first indication. We must instead see Beppe struggling with a photograph. If you show him a picture he does not know one of your example, witness a process that reveals some of the physical and logical steps, we may assume, are part of the repertoire of strategies through which Beppe create their images. First of all the picks, but not as you pick up a thin object: a photograph in his hands acquires depth, the touches, the rubs his hands as if they could find something that your eyes can not see. Then he turns, the turns, the tips and, when he seems to have found the orientation of the photograph which appears to convince him, with what he has to cover it begins to flow, to reclassify, to segment. At the end of that photo, perhaps driven by the bottom up or mass sbiego, is uncovered only a portion: and then, if the evening was one of those good and the company lives up to it, start talking Beppe of what they found inside that piece of your photo. It will take you into a world of simple stories and maybe sometimes trivial, sometimes amazing and extraordinary. It must be so that proceeds also to invent its image since it can add a powerful sense of formal balance and composition. And in truth, the strength of her images lies precisely in view of a mature form, in an expressive power that strikes at first glance. Because the stories are illustrated remain secret and private and we are invited by Beppe Fornasa to create new ones, to his work that will enrich our of our impressions and our emotions. After all, we are all under the same sky and the same clouds, but we get each other wonders.
